Commuting isn’t just about speed; it’s about finding joy and comfort in every ride. I wanted a setup that allowed me to carry snacks, meals, and anything else I might need on the go without hassle. Luckily, I already had the right bag, and I decided to try the Ritchey ventureMax XL Bar—a handlebar I’d been curious about for a long time.
The bar spans from 42cm to a whopping 52cm, offering incredible width. After testing it out, I found the perfect balance: I raised the height, shortened the stem slightly, and the results felt just right. Although the wider bar catches more wind and is less aerodynamic, it brings unexpected benefits.
Firstly, it’s extremely comfortable. I’ve noticed improved visibility, which makes me feel safer and more confident on the road. It also opens up my chest, making it easier to recover during and after rides. Surprisingly, despite the less aerodynamic position, I feel like I’m riding faster than ever.
This small experiment has reminded me that cycling is about more than just speed—it’s about creating a setup that suits me. A setup where I can enjoy the journey, recover better, and feel at ease. I’m already excited to explore more with this configuration.
